Italiano: Loricolo dalla corona blu
Inglish: Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot
Germany: Blaukroenchen

Without doubt this hanging is the most known and diffused between the representatives of the proper kind in how much it still comes largely been of importance and it is available of capture to an approachable price. Unfortunately this beautiful representative of the kind loriculus remains a parrot a little raised in Italy while in the Benelux the reproducing couples increase rapidly.
Hardly been of importance the subjects they also are not very strong because of the lack of suitable cares give him from the importers and from the merchants that they are confined to to give apple and little nectar (when understands) but once acclimatized and well taken care of it proves an enough strong subject.
The sexual dimorfism is very marked in how much only the male show the red breast and the yellow on the shoulders it is very more intense than in the female.
Attention however because normally the of importance subjects are young and they show to the livery of the female, while they will assume the definitive livery only to a year and half - two years and that is to sexual maturity.
Is necessary to remark that elderly female can show the red on the breast but the colors they are however all less bright ones some males.

Lenght: 12 centimeters

Distribution: South of Thailand, Malesia, Singapore, Borneo, Sumatra and Indonesia's island.

Natural diet: nectar, fruit, buds, flowers, seeds and, probably, also bugs.

Natural breeding: the period of breeding has gone since January to July; the female transports pieces of leaves in the feathers of the back inside the nest like lovebirds.

Feeding: Mainly frugivoris need big quantities of fruit to renew daily; to avoid to furnish alone apple to him because for a long time to go they provoke vitaminic problems.

Personally I nourish my couples with a fruit salad of united mixed fruit to boiled carrots, vegetables of season (cauliflower, zucchini, peas, onion, fagiolini, etc) the all reduced to small pieces to which I unit some boiled rice.
Apart every day I furnish 150 ccs of nectar for lori and a mixture of seeds for small parrots without sunflower.
Weekly I furnish some tenebrio molitor.

Breeding: My couples are lodged in the cages of 100 x 50 x 50 provisions of jaws of willow that create in an angle a small natural habitat and that the subjects are enjoyed to nibble. The cage necessity of frequent cleaning (also the roosts) because of the type of feeding and of I made for them very liquid punishment lethal infections.
English call the loricolis hanging-parrots and a name used in Italy it is pendolini, for the peculiar habit to this kind to rest suspended to head in down.
For this reason it is necessary to avoid cages with closed roofs (the walls instead noltos go well provided that washable) and to prefer roofs of net so that to avoid to submit to useless stresses the subjects.
The cararattere of these parrots is very sweet and in the time they become very confiding, their verse is a little annoying and, can result even rather melodious.
They withstand to least temperatures of 15°C, but they live better in heated environments at least to 20°C during the winter.
The principal reproduction starts in December-January and therefore the environments of breeding must be well illuminated for at least 14 hours a day.
They depose from 2 to 4 eggs, to intervals of 24 hours and they begin to incubate from the second egg.
Incubation 18-21 days; the chicks is fed in the nest, from the female fed by the male, for four - six weeks and the youngs that go out from the nest are normally independent after two weeks from I steal him.

Nest :

The figure reproduced a nest box that personally use. Really they don't need particular nests and they are also been reproduced in horizontal nests from lovebirds.
