The genus uraeginthus is, probably, the beautifulst group of Africans waxbill present in our aviaries. The main characteristic is a coloration that covers all the tonalities of the blue, from the blue clearly to the intense viola.

The shape is streamlined, the tail is long and streamlined and the the movements are much agile and elegant.

All the representatives of the family when imported have a sure difficulty to acclimatize and therefore they need, at least for the first times, of one temperature at least 20°C and intense cures. The males are much bellicose therefore are not advisable to lodge more pairs entirety waves to avoid continuous fights that invariably carry to the dead of one of the two.

Once acclimatized they turn out strong and a lot tilts to breeding. A pair in good health, if lodged in a cage very shielded with green burlap and, still better, if in presence of shrubs greens will try sure of breeding.

The nests are make very well, and for its construction they come preferentially used the fiber of coconut and long steles of grass. The inside comes accurately fill up with cotton and vegetable or animal soft matter.

They come placed usual 4-6- eggs, but are not exceptional depositions of 7-8 eggs. These come brooded mainly from the female, while the male limits itself to heats when the female exits in order to eat and during the night with to this last.

It broods approximately 12 days, to the term of which born a dark chickens with an abundant piumino and a particular bill inner design.

All the chickens of the genus uraeginthus have the characteristic to ask the food folding the head for side and swinging the neck so as to put in extension the bill design.

For such reason the breeding with the nannies can introduce some problem. It's necessary therefore to select the pairs of sparrows of Japan that succeed to raising this type particular of pullus and to supply they a pastoncino that, in order at least 10 days, must introduce 25% of proteins at least. In contrary case the chickens grow very slowly and exit from the nest weak with often ominous consequences for their destiny.

In case the legitimate parents undertake the breeding of the chickens, must supply they great amounts of alive food for the first week and therefore tender food.

The representatives of this genus are a lot very present in the Italian breedings and therefore the purchase of subjects been born in captivities, characterized from closed ring, than they do not need of particular cures for the acclimatization and that sure, if good lodged, breeding with happening.
